RE: Ford 250 vs 350 4x4 dually

But the towing guide has EXACTLY the same ratings for the F250 as an F350. Since the dually has smaller tires than the standard F250/350, it's tow ratings are the same(15,400#) for the 4x4 SRW vs the 4x4 dually. It's not the tow ratings that are of concern. It's the maximum payload that the manufacturer advertises. There's a 900# difference between the 250 and 350SRW 4X4 and 1,600# more for the 350DRW 4X4 over the 350 SRW. If OP loaded his trailer to the max of 15,000# he should have a pin weight in the area of 3,000#. At 13,880# with judicious loading I had a pin weight of 2640# which when added to the truck loaded for travel (hitch, line-x, full fuel, 2 pax and 1 dog) exceeded the 9,800# vehicle GVWR by 320#. Another 360# would put a 250 right at the rear axle rating. Again, I had no trouble towing. Went to the West Coast twice over the Rockies on I70 and pulled the Grapevine enroute to San Diego. It was the stopping and the feeling that the trailer was trying to push the truck when stopping because some yahoo decided he wanted the space I created or at a speed exceeding 45mph, especially on the curves on the downside of the hills.

RE: Electrical cord hook-up to Truck

A strong rubber band also works. They will deteriorate over time though so keep a few spares.

RE: Ford 250 vs 350 4x4 dually

I have a 33CKQ Cameo which is about 600# lighter as delivered and towed it with a 05 F250. It towed fine but I was concerned about stopping and descending on a grade. Anything over about 45mph and I had the feeling the fiver was trying to push the rear end of the truck sideways. Also at 14,000# I was over the truck's rated GVW by 400# and under the rear axle rating by 460#. I suspect you will be over both ratings with the 250. With a 350 single rear wheel you will still have to be careful of your trailer load. I considered the 350 but opted for the 450 for the increased brake size and tighter turn radius. As stated previously if you decide on the 350 crew cab dually 4X4 get the extended front axle which reduces the turn radius considerably.

RE: What about diesels?

The other day was on a retired US Coast Guard ice breaker boat on Lake Michigan on a tour. The 1944 10 cylinder diesel motors are good for 2,000 hp at 850 rpms times six motors. The retired guy giving the tour of the motor room claimed the motors were supercharged. The motors didn't appear to have a supercharger on them but he said the motors brought in cold outside air to cool them which is what he could have thought meant supercharged, who knows. At any rate the motors were very amazing. Each motor was said to burn 100 gallons of unrefined diesel fuel per hour. In 2006 when the boat was put out of commission the price per gallon for the fuel was $1.01. That seems cheap but the tank is 276,000 gallons!!! Hey Supercharged, did you hear that??? They diesels are equipped with blowers which equate to superchargers. They are also 2 cycle opposed piston. The main engines turned generators to power the two main motors aft and one for the bow screw forward (if used). The diesels were cooled by lake water. The motors by air. Served on Mighty Mac 63-65.

RE: 2nd A/C install in unit without wiring/frame prep

have swamp coolers for the house and many folks have been using them for years. When there's 10 or less % humidity, A/C only makes it worse. Having moisture added to the air is good for both the trailer and the owner. I have a feeling the humidity in Virginia is much, much higher than 10%. Right now the humidity in my location is 72%.

RE: Storing 50A detachable cord

The weight and size of the 50A cord is the reason I went out and purchased a 30A which gets used most of the time. I don't have a washer/dryer so the only time I need the 50A cord is when I'm running both A/Cs. The 50A is stored in a plastic bin.

RE: Rv Direct Cash up Front ?

I didn't buy from RV Direct but did buy in IN, the dealer gave me a 30 day transit permit and we went to KY for the winter. I've purchased many vehicles outside my home state and always received a temp tag for transit. RVD could do this also. In one instance I had to provide a check in advance but it was made out to the dealer AND me.

RE: Question about tire air pressure.

What rims do you have? Can they handle 100psi? How about the valve stems? Are they metal?

RE: Algae bio-diesel

But lets not get our hopes up that all this new drilling or bio fuels will lower prices dramatically. Much of the petroleum reserves are not economically recoverable at a low $/barrel. Likewise the investment required for bio fuel isn't profitable at low prices. Ethanol, as it's now produced, is subsidized by the government or it wouldn't be profitable. And where does that subsidy come from? Taxes. You pay one way or another. Increased production here could reduce the price swings caused by events not under our control but wouldn't eliminate them entirely.

RE: Awning Cleaning

I use awning cleaner brush it on, roll up awning for 20-30minutes then wash. Rolling it up makes the job much easier.

RE: Pulling the big fifth wheel

My 450 with 4.30 rear has averaged 8.7 ( high 9.0/low 8.2) over 8700 miles cruising at 2000rpm. When you get in the mountains with temps at 90 or above don't get excited when the fan kicks in -- it's somewhat noisy.

RE: How often do you check lug nut tightness?

When I stopped to ask if I could help he told me his lug nuts sheared off. Sheared lug nuts usually indicate stretched bolts -- torqued too much.

RE: who tows with a 2008 ford FX4 with the high box sidewalls

I don't think the Super Dutys (250,350, 450) have changed the side wall depth. I believe that is limited to the 150's. I had an 05 Super Duty and don't see any difference in my 08.
